Key features

Colour – The signature feature of Black Baccara is its rich, velvet-like bloom colour, which can appear darker (near-black) in cooler temperatures and in strong light conditions.
Bloom quality – 40–45 petals per bloom with a classic high-centred hybrid tea shape, ideal for bouquets and floral displays.
Growth habit – Upright, bushy plant, suitable for borders, large containers, or as a focal point.
Foliage – Glossy dark green leaves with good visual contrast and overall strong garden presence.

How to get the darkest colour

To encourage the deepest tones, grow in full sun and expect colour to appear darkest during cooler weather and early flushes. (In hot spells, blooms may read more deep red/burgundy.)

Planting & care (UK)

Sunlight: Full sun is best for flowering and colour intensity.
Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil; improve with compost. Slightly acidic to neutral pH is ideal.
Watering: Water regularly in dry periods. Water the base, not the leaves, to reduce disease risk.
Feeding: Feed in spring and again after the first flush to support repeat flowering.
Pruning: Prune in late winter/early spring for strong new flowering stems; deadhead through the season to encourage repeat blooms.

Ideal uses

Black Baccara is perfect for adding a luxury focal point to your garden, and it’s exceptional in cut-flower arrangements thanks to its classic hybrid tea form and dramatic colour.
