Rambling Roses are vigorous, long-stemmed roses ideal for covering large garden structures such as pergolas, arches, walls, fences and even mature trees. Their flexible growth allows them to spread naturally over substantial supports and create an impressive display of colour, fragrance and movement in the garden.
If you are looking for roses with a more controlled upright habit and, in many cases, repeat flowering throughout the season, explore our Climbing Roses collection, which includes varieties better suited to walls, trellises and smaller structures.
Unlike many modern climbing roses, ramblers usually produce one spectacular flush of flowers in early to midsummer. During this period, a mature plant can become covered in blooms, making rambling roses especially effective in cottage gardens, informal planting schemes and larger landscapes.
Our Bare Root Roses collection includes dormant roses for autumn and winter planting, including vigorous ramblers that establish well when planted during the dormant season.
Rambling roses are particularly suitable for larger UK gardens where they have enough room to develop. Their long stems can be trained horizontally across pergolas and fences, allowed to cascade over arches or guided naturally through established trees.
Varieties such as Albertine are valued for their soft pink flowers and strong sweet fragrance, while Veilchenblau offers unusual violet and lilac tones for gardeners looking for something more distinctive.
For best results, plant rambling roses in fertile, well-drained soil and provide a strong support structure. Because many ramblers flower on established growth, they are generally pruned after flowering in summer, rather than being heavily cut back in early spring.
Seasonal availability: bare-root rambling roses are available during the dormant season, with dispatch for climbing and rambling varieties beginning from late November 2026. Potted rambling roses will be available from 1 April, subject to variety and stock availability. UK mainland delivery only.
