About rose Miss Piggy

The Miss Piggy rose is a hybrid tea rose known for its sweet scent and unique color-shifting blooms, which blend orange-pink and peach. It is a popular cut flower for bouquets due to its classic shape and strong stems, but it also works well in gardens, especially for smaller spaces or containers because of its moderate size. This rose variety is also valued for its disease resistance and reliability in varying climates.

Characteristics

  • Color: Orange-pink with peach and pink blush tones that shift and blend within the bloom.
  • Scent: Intensely sweet and fragrant.
  • Shape: Classic hybrid tea goblet shape with a pointed bud that opens to large, full blooms.
  • Size: The bush typically grows to about 60-80 cm tall, while the cut stems are often 40-60 cm or taller, depending on grading.

Growing and care

  • Sun: Prefers full sun, needing at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Soil: Thrives in well-draining, loamy soil with an ideal pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
  • Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but not waterlogged.
  • Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced rose fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
  • Hardiness: It can handle cooler climates, especially when grown on its own roots, which is a sensible and sustainable choice for gardeners.

Uses

  • Cut flower: A popular choice for florists because of its long, sturdy stems and vase life.
  • Garden: Suitable for patios, containers, and the front of borders in smaller gardens due to its neat habit and height.
  • Landscaping: Can be used in formal rose edging or mixed cottage-style plantings.
